8,069 PointsHow do you guys approach the mind mapping technique?
I am using the mind mapping technique to make a new logo, as taught by Matt Helme. The way I’m approaching it is to mix it with one kind of brainstorming I’ve learned at college: From Shit to Gold. Basically what I’m doing is to just write down whatever comes to my mind in order to make the good ideas come out – of course, without forgetting that these have to be concepts I wouldn’t feel strange to have in the final result.
How do you guys approach the mind mapping? Any thoughts?

I, like you, just write down random ideas. Branch off of the original. Branch off of that. Erase or scratch out the bad ideas... By the time I'm done, my paper looks like my 4 year old was trying to draw a picture... Once I have most of the kinks worked out, I'll write everything down again that survived the first brainstorm, and begin to implement my ideas. But even that sheet will inevitably have additions and subtractions made. I've even scrapped the paper and gone to a whiteboard for some projects.
Really, it's all up to you. Which method is easiest for you to read and decipher? There's really no RIGHT or WRONG way to brainstorm. As long as the end result is what you were looking for.

8,069 PointsYeah, if I remember correctly the reason behind the Shit to Gold is that the first ideas that comes to our minds tend to be the crappiest and most obvious, so by exhausting those thoughts new perspectives will eventually arise.
