Sign up[SOUND] Welcome to the orientation for 0:00 Ubora, the Treehouse Academy. 0:05 I'm Dr. Toni Josato chief learning and operations officer. 0:11 My pronouns are she, her. 0:14 >> I'm Guil, my pronouns are he, him. 0:16 >> I'm Liz and my pronouns are she, her. 0:20 >> I'm Michelle, my pronouns are she, her. 0:22 >> I'm Reggie, my pronouns are he, him. 0:25 >> For this portion of orientation, 0:28 we want to share a little bit about the mission of Treehouse. 0:30 >> All of our work here at Treehouse is centered around our mission. 0:33 We believe in it and we've seen our students live it. 0:37 Our mission is to diversify the tech industry through accessible education, 0:40 unlocking the door to opportunity, and empowering people to achieve their dreams. 0:46 >> Tech should be for everyone. 0:53 This mission is not just a statement to us. 0:55 >> To be honest, the mission is why everyone at Treehouse works here. 0:57 There are numerous tech companies where we could work, 1:01 but the mission brought us here. 1:03 I know for me it did. 1:05 >> We say that anyone can work in tech, but unfortunately, 1:07 not everyone has the same opportunities, resources, and support. 1:10 >> In order to create equity amongst our identities, 1:15 we need to lead with inclusive education. 1:18 >> For us, this means intentionally and explicitly having a program centered on 1:21 underrepresented identities, such as people of color and women. 1:25 >> It is our hope with Ubora that we can remove barriers to wealth and 1:30 education for lasting change. 1:34 There have been many folks who have broken glass ceilings and 1:37 barriers in education and the tech field. 1:40 >> You might have heard of Grace Hopper, 1:43 who was known as the pioneer programming and invented one of the first linkers. 1:45 >> Or Mary Jackson, who became NASA's first Black female engineer. 1:50 There's Jerry Lawson, 1:55 who was a self-taught engineer that became the first major Black video game designer. 1:56 >> While these innovators have shown underrepresented identities it's possible, 2:02 we believe that it shouldn't be such a challenge. 2:06 >> At Treehouse, we've had over 300,000 students complete our programs. 2:10 Many of them have gone on to successful tech careers. 2:15 You'll get to know some of them and their stories throughout your learning journey. 2:19 In our mission, we mentioned opening a door to opportunity so 2:23 you can achieve your dreams. 2:27 We realize how out there that goal might be. 2:30 But we've seen it happen time and again for our students. 2:32 That doesn't mean we're unaware of the challenges that might still arise for 2:37 you both on this journey and in your life. 2:42 >> This is why we're providing an affordable pathway through education to 2:45 a lucrative career with job ready skills. 2:49 >> A portfolio to share. 2:52 >> And technical interview preparation, to name a few. 2:54 >> We aim to be there for you as you learn, 2:57 figure out what your dream job might be, and when you feel stuck. 2:59 >> Throughout this journey, you'll likely experience imposter syndrome, 3:03 if you haven't already. 3:07 It's something that we dealt with when we began our careers in tech. 3:09 >> It's that feeling like you don't belong, aren't good enough, or 3:12 you're a fraud. That is something we'll talk about throughout your journey. 3:17 So it doesn't stop you from achieving your dreams and your goals. 3:22 >> Through Ubora, we cannot wait to see you learn, grow, and succeed. 3:26 >> Together, we will make education and the tech industry more equitable. 3:31 >> We look forward to crossing paths with you, in videos, on Slack, and 3:36 at various events. 3:40 Welcome to your new journey. 3:42 >> Let's do this.
