You'll want to pass the first admin_menu hook as the first ... is the message I'm getting...

Now hook the plugin menu.. are the instructions. What am I doing wrong please?

you are using the wrong quotation mark, but here is the write code: add_action( 'admin_menu', 'my_plugin_menu');
