259 PointsYou don't need a college degree to be a web developer, but for mobile you do
I've heard this a lot. Does anyone agree with this? Really like to hear the thoughts of any ios devs here.
I was doing the ios techdegree but dropped out after hearing this during a chat. I wasn't going to waste money knowing that since I didn't have a college degree, I was never getting a job as an ios dev. So now I'm deciding between FS javascript or waiting for the new ux techdegree to come out. College at my age just isn't an option, plus I hate being in a classroom setting.

UX Design Techdegree Graduate 22,796 PointsYou are making my day @jrs0801 , I am also looking forward to UX TechDegree too. College is too expensive in terms of Finance and Time. I don't have a sponsor to pay my Fees , let's wait and see but I think you should not have dropped out of IOS class.

Front End Web Development Techdegree Graduate 56,488 PointsHi jrs0801,
This might obviously differ based on location, but in general, I have a hard time believing you would not be able to land a job because of the lack of a college degree. Doesn't matter if it's for a role as a Web Developer or an iOS Developer. As a matter of fact, my company often recruit developers without degrees. So I am afraid you're sitting on bad information, or live in a town where there is a huge abundance of developers!
Most companies do ask for a degree in their ads, but then they also ask for 5 years of experience using a library that was created 2 years earlier. So don't get stuck on all the details when you're applying for a job :)
I hope that helps, Jonas

UX Design Techdegree Graduate 22,796 PointsWell said and I appreciate your humor too in that companies ask for a years of experience for things discovered like yesterday.
In fact Google, Apple and IBM are just some of companies that no longer require employees to have a college degree.

259 PointsI had too since I wasn't going to college. I also didn't like that it didn't go over any objective C. Yes, swift is the future, but there are still so many jobs out there also wanting objective C knowledge for obvious reasons.
