WP Email plugin fails. Followed the directions from this video step-by-step to install "Easy SMTP", but testing failed.

I stepped thru this video about adding the plugin from the WP-Admin section, and updated the correct email, password, encryption, and SMTP port (Gmail), and the test message consistently fails:

SMTP connect() failed. https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer/wiki/Troubleshooting

I'm learning WP now, and have basically zero background in PHP or why this is failing. Help wanted please!!

I have had also problems with this plug in...but I decided to try something else. I opened a gmail account and I have used the plug-in called: Postman SMTP from Jason Hendriks...Everything works now, but with another plug-in
