34 PointsWordPress web design startup?
So I'm looking into potentially founding a WordPress startup. I kind of have a rough idea of where to start (installing, customizing, and maintaining WP sites for clients? Suggestions there?) but I'd also like to get some feedback from those who probably know a bit more than I do. Comments, tips of the trade, questions for me, etc. can go either way (business or WP-related) as I'd like to delve into both a bit more.

7,505 PointsNot sure what issues you are referring to regrading licenses but from my experience w/ ThemeForest, the license is one use per purchase I believe. I mentioned TF and the likes in part because of potential residual income but also because the odds of selling one or more are greater. Any hoo I believe a framework is always a good base to start from because because I come from a software background and re-use is a really convenient and trusted way of implementing things that are known to work reliably. 34 PointsI've looked into this (though a lot of licenses prohibit it, sadly), and I've also looked into building off of theme frameworks. It seems to be a simpler way and definitely allows for quicker turnaround times, though I'm not sure.

I'm not sure of any specific articles or books on Wordpress startups. Smashing had some good resources on Wordpress and freelance/startup ebooks and articles. The Wordpress Codex docs are the best reference for Wordpress itself.
In my opinion I'd go for a wider scope and learn about managing clients, and managing a web design business.
Remember, it's not a Wordpress installation your providing, it's a solution to a problem. Look at the clients business, squeeze as much as possible out of the client on what the real issues are, and what goals they intend to achieve. Begin there and approach each project this way is a good way to go.
