Everything has a different purpose. And don't be slefish! :) Not everyone know how to code, so they might use WordPress ( if yo uunderstand the purpose of WordPress).
I give you a tip, you wouldn't create a facebook like webapp with WordPress. You would probably give a WordPress site to an average person.
Not sure who you want to cheat :) Whatever get's the job done :) Whatever will suit stuff best :)
Hope that helps!
But good question! I will actually make a much longer answer about that. Will explain in detail. BUt that'll be on a blog.

7,363 Pointsby cheating i meant cheating the clients..... by using wordpress or drupal etc IF you know how to code html css javascript php etc and cheat with wordpress...that's what i meant by the question. i ask because i'm wrestling with this right now in my personal freelance gig. i have friends telling me don't code use wordpress it's faster and simpler so you can kick out more sites in a week than you can coding etc. in my view that's cheating. is it in other peoples views too?

10,801 PointsOkay.
Let me challenge your thinking a bit.
A Client want's a website done in a week. He want's the website to be flexible, he wants to change the content inside. Perhaps he want's a totally new thing (a plugin in WP). ANd he has a limited budget.
Now, that's a LOT of work if you were to code all of that up!
It will take you more time to do this, and then do the back-end of it, and set it up on the server. In addition you will have to teach your client how to use what you just created, while WP is alot easier since most people know it, if not, there is plenty of stuff out there.
He can hire any developer, so none is going to look at your code (in a way).
So it takes you 1months to produce this, and you charge him 5times more. So in the clinet view you might now cheat him to prelong all of this and charge more.
Anyway, this doesn't matter that much, most clients will watn WordPress, and they already know about it. THey are familiar with this. WordPress powers 25% of the web and it's a multi-million(or billion) dollar industry. That's how the economy of it works, and none of us needs to like it, but that's the reality, as a side note.
OR
You develop a WordPress theme for the client, it takes a lot faster, most of the functionality is already build and you can get that done in a week, provide more value and BAM, go to the next client, while the clinet now makes more money because of you. So nstead of wasting 4weeks waiting for a site, now he get's a site in 1week, which means he will earn for 3extra weeks so now he earned 7weeks of free time. That's what he wants.
They don't care what you do, or how you code it, all they care is if they have a website that works. Now, as a coder you should care about the code, but your code will be spaghetti when you're starting out anyway.
Cheating is when a client want's a theme and has no idea how much it costs, and you charge him $5000. THen you go to themeforest and buy a theme for $50, modify it in a day and sell it to the client for $5000. That's cheating to me! That can ruind someones business.
