Why won't the workspace load files?

This question is probably more directed at Treehouse staff; I don't know how much help a student could be, no offense intended.

I've been using workspace to follow along with the lessons.

For the last 4 lessons, however, when I try to transfer files from my drive to the workspace, nothing happens.

I click on the "upload file" command in the File menu of workspace, but I don't get the box in the left column where all the files are shown, ie the css folder with normalize.css & style.css, the index.html file, and any img files. The box I refer to shows up at the bottom of the column, and says something about dragging files here to upload to workspace.

I've been able to work around most of the problem by copying normalize.css & style.css to notebook, then copying the files from the notebook to a waiting page on workspace, which is already set up as files in folders. I hope that makes sense.

The problem I've run into is that the current lesson needs an image transferred from the lesson's zip files to the workspace, and I cannot get it to load.

Any suggestions?

I do think that TreeHouse should take a look at the project files for the last 5-6 project files. I use Sublime as opposed to workspaces but you will see multiple questions stating that 'start' files do not match those of Guil.

Commented out parts of the files are different and some aspects of the actual code as well. Typically, if i used the 'end' file, it will match Guil's but also defeats the purpose of following along in order to grasp the content.

It may have minimal impact on the outcome, as usually the code is similar and with cascading style it overrides the differences earlier in the code, but is confusing for starters. Attention to detail is one thing I've learned is absolutely necessary in learning to code and even a small thing like different comments within code can throw of new learners like myself.

It may not relate to Stevencooper's comment but it set off a red flag and could be worth a look.

Hi Steven, a common problem we see with users on Windows machines is they have not yet unzipped the files. Here's how to easily unzip the files.

  • Locate the compressed folder that you want to extract files or folders from.
  • Do one of the following: To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location.

Um,, yeah, I know how to unzip files, and for 23 workspaces was able to upload files directly from the unzipped folder on my drive to the workspace via a box that appeared in the bottom left corner of the workspace when i clicked on "upload file" in the "file" drop-down menu.. It's only been the last 3 or 4 workspaces I've used that I haven't been able to drag & drop the files to get them uploaded.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's not the help i was looking for. It seems to be more a techie glitch than a lesson question.

I am open to all suggestions & will try them out, even if I am not sure that the suggestion will work.
