I'm having a hard time following along. I'm currently attending a Java bootcamp, and i'm also studying the OCA Java SE7 certification guide. I don't see any mention of console, and even things like printing to the screen aren't using what your'e doing.
System.out.println("My Name is " + firstName); for example, is what we're using here. As i've moved on i see other things that just aren't the same. Am i better off looking for other resources online? I appreciate your help.

There are often multiple ways to do things in a programming language such as print to the console and etc. Learning both ways can never do any harm and will actually only serve to strengthen your programming knowledge. In terms of resources the courses here at Treehouse are incredibly high quality and will teach you very well.

51 PointsThanks Luke, I definitely appreciate the response. I guess my number one concern is that after the christmas break, we'll be taking the OCA Java SE7 exam. The study guide has been very different, starting with the basics. I 100% agree with you though, that learning different ways can and will strengthen coding skills. I was hoping this course would give one more place to study and go through problems and stuff. It looks like it just might not be for me right now.
However, I am very interested in your Ruby on Rails stuff....and the site here is beautiful and very well done. Maybe not the Java I'm looking for, but still fantastic.

13,564 PointsIf you have been instructed to do things in a certain way throughout your course then I would maybe recommend avoiding the Java course here at Treehouse until you have finished your examination. Once you have finished that, however, you will be absolutely fine to dive right back into the Java course.
Definitely take a look at the Ruby & RoR content here then, it is really great! There is even the Rails Development Track which takes you from complete beginner to making fully functional web apps!
