Why no Else at the end of the first If?

Why do we not need an else at the end of the first else? I thought the syntax required and else at the end of any "if/else if" statement. Like, "else correctGuess = false;

I realize this is useless since it starts out false but I thought you needed that for the program to run properly.

An "else" is always optional. Many times you need something to happen for a certain condition, but nothing special needs to be done otherwise. In these cases it is normal to use an "if" but to not have any "else".

Else is only used if you want something to happen if all of the conditions is false.
