Java Java Objects (Retired) Harnessing the Power of Objects Handling Exceptions

why is it giving me a compiler error

what do i do

Main.java
public class Main {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        GoKart kart = new GoKart("yellow");
        if (kart.isBatteryEmpty()) {
          throw new IllegalArgumentException("Not enough battery remains");
       }
        kart.drive(2);
    }
}
 try {
kart.laps(100);
  System.out.println("impossible!!!");
} catch (IllegalArgumentException iae){
      System.out.println("The battery is empty");
}

You have try block outside of main function

Karol is right. your Try and Catch method is outside the class parenthesis. try the code below...if it works click best answer is it doesnt ...give me a shout.

public class Main {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        GoKart kart = new GoKart("yellow");
        if (kart.isBatteryEmpty()) {
          System.out.println("The battery is empty");
        }
      try {
        kart.drive(2);
      }
      // catch an illegal argument exception iae and use iae to get the message
      catch (IllegalArgumentException iae) {
        System.out.println(iae.getMessage());
      }
    }
}
