19,146 PointsA static variable is a variable that is not associated with objects of a class but with the class itself.
Here's an example.
public class Something {
public static String name = "A static variable";
}
public class App {
public static void main(String[] args) {
System.out.println(Something.name);
}
}
You use static to make constants, assign id's to objects and count number of objects.
