Why doesn't != n or != N work in this challenge?

I'm wondering why using != 'n' or != 'N' does not work in this challenge. I tested on my local machine also, it doesn't work.

#     answer = input("Do you want to start the movie? ")
#     if answer != 'n' or answer != 'N':
#         print("Enjoy the show!")
#     else:
#          sys.exit()


# this works
import sys
def start_movie():
    answer = input("Do you want to start the movie? ")
    if answer == 'n' or answer == 'N':
         sys.exit()
    else:
        print("Enjoy the show!")

If you go the 'not equal to' route, you need to use AND rather than OR. Because it needs to be true that answer is not equal to both 'n' and 'N'.
