I thought that got handled automatically, why do we need to do that in the function.php?

28,149 PointsI don't think wordpress adds any css files to the theme by default - this way you can control the source order just as you need it. I think the only thing it does is automatically pick up the style.css file as part of the requirements for a valid wordpress theme, but it doesn't actually bring that file into the source code, unless you do it.
