Which Tech Degree should I enrol for

Hi there I have two questions and I hope you help me on this. I am finally able to start my TechDegree but I need some help in choosing the right path.

1 - Which is the right tech degree course based on what I need to achieve ?

I don't understand which course to enrol to, maybe if I explain what I need to achieve you will have infos in order to suggest me the right one. I would like to build websites from the ground up / especially build custom wordpress themes

This is the level of complexity I would like to achieve

http://saintepaix.com http://www.thecuppingroom.com.au http://ponder.online https://theoutline.com http://www.csmpostgradart.com http://pedroduarte.me

etc..

Which course is more adapt?

  • front end wed dev
  • java web dev
  • full stack javascript

2 - Which is the right plan for me / either base one or the "premium" one with "professional project review" and "1 on 1 mentor session" ?

Thank you!

I would say Full Stack JavaScript is a pretty good topic. :)

Hey there Giorgio,

It's really tough for others to judge what's best for you. Everyone will have an opinion, and every one will probably be different. If the front-end design and functionality of the website is what really interests you, then I would stick with the Front-End Development degree. If you want to focus more on the Back-End development and functionality of the sites, then I'd say Java.

Now the examples you gave, you will have to keep in mind that half of those are WordPress sites, so odds are they are build with pre-made themes with each having its own unique functionality and customization. Customizing a theme for WordPress is a whole other game and is done in PHP (which Treehouse currently doesn't offer a Tech Degree).

In my opinion, I would stay where you are in the Front-End Degree program. As for what 'level' ... that's even more opinionated than which degree. Some people learn just fine with the videos and readings and their own research. Others need the extra one-on-one with the feedback. So, that decision will have to be up to you and how you can and will learn best.

Good luck with your endeavour! :)
