7,282 PointsWhen I click "merge", the sketch layer becomes visible. Any idea why this is happening?
I've converted the path to an outline stroke, so i'm not sure what's causing the issue

31,009 PointsYou have to turn (change) all the paths into outline.
select all->object->Path->OutlineStroke
Then pathfinder merge

7,686 PointsHi, this question was asked a long time ago and for the sake of just following up with an answer, here it is, as the same thing just happened to me. If you had looked at all of your layers you would have likely found that the sketch somehow became part of the icon layer. I resolved this by dragging the sketch back down to become part of the sketch layer again. Then grouped the icon copy layer as he did in the video. Not sure how it happened in the first place, but fixed now.

12,269 PointsMerging two objects. Is the object visible still? Was the sketch layer visible already?
I'm little confused what the issue is. If you don't want the sketch layer visible just turn it off again by clicking the eye. Make sure your new object is on it own layer away from "sketch layer".
