what's wrong with my code?

def add(num1, num2): try: except ValueError: return None else: return float(num1)+float(num2) add(4, 2)

trial.py 
def add(num1, num2):
    try:
    except ValueError:
        return None
    else:
        return float(num1)+float(num2)
add(4, 2)

Here is what I did:

def add(num1, num2):

    try:
        total = float(num1) + float(num2)
    except ValueError:
        return None
    else:
        return total
