Whats the difference between valueForKey and objectForKey?

My code reads as follows:

myRide = [carDict objectForKey:@"Make"];

NSLog(@"My car manufacturer is %@", myRide);

It is not accepted as the answer until it's changed to:

myRide = [carDict valueForKey:@"Make"];

NSLog(@"My car manufacturer is %@", myRide);

My questions is, if a String is an object - why use the term value? Object is more intuitive to me. Is there a functional difference you don't see when compiling in Xcode (like, on the back end?)
