What web hosting should I go with?

I want to get a poll going on what is the best web hosting site for someone who is going to start making websites for some friends to start then transition into clients? I am going to start with making my sites with WordPress. I have only used GoDaddy before for my own site but doing some research it never makes any of the top 10 list on google. Looking for key factors like price, customer service, and being reliable. Thanks

Is the top 10 list you're referring to based on the factors you're looking for? Or is it just popularity?

just searching off of Google for "best WordPress hosting sites 2017" I dont really have any factors just yet, once I start doing this a bit more I am sure I will know what I am looking for but for now it is just to get me up and running.

Since your plan is to take on clients, I think choosing a host that focuses on the needs of developers and provides good scalability options would be a good idea. Be careful about those "Best this or that of 2017" lists. As someone who worked for an ESP for a decade, I know that some of these types of lists ask for money and while they might not explicitly say it, the understanding is they won't rank you if you don't pay to play.

I personally like Digital Ocean: you spin up your own servers (called Droplets), the pricing starts at $5/month, and I've experienced solid reliability so far (I'm using the CentOS 7 Linux distro). I chose to install Ghost for a publishing platform but could just as easily have chosen WP.

Other good hosting companies I've tried: Dreamhost and Linode. I don't use WP at the moment but I recall that Dreamhost had somewhat of a focus on WP, including managed services. I'm not sure the relative importance of going with a host that specializes in WP.
