What is the "Hero" section of a website?

What is the exact definition of this? Why is it called that?

Hi Zack Rabie !

IMHO there's no exact definition for this but you might want to have a look at http://getbootstrap.com/2.3.2/examples/hero.html

"...a large callout called the hero unit"

Also at http://getbootstrap.com/2.3.2/components.html in section "Hero unit" you will find something that comes closer to a definition: "A lightweight [The Hero unit], flexible component to showcase key content on your site. It works well on marketing and content-heavy sites."

Thanks Holger Liesegang ! That helps. My general understanding of it has been an area that draws heavy attention to itself. I guess it can often be a place where conversions happen and will often feature a call to action.
