1,753 PointsA block element is an element that takes up the full width available, and will break other objects before and after it, like a DIV. An in-line element are things like text that will fill up a line until there is no more space and will then "word wrap" in essence, like text, anchors and spans.

2,673 PointsInline elements will always appear to continue on the same line as their neighbouring elements (think span, a, img ...) . While block element will always start on a new line and take as much horizontal space as they can (think div, section...)
