An asset
in a program (not just a game) is often a piece of media, such as an image, audio file, video file, custom font, etc. An object
in a program is often a term referring to a generic Object
data type or a base class for other type of objects in the program.
If you're working with Unity, an Object
is a base class for all objects in Unity. But a GameObject
is a base class for all entities within scenes.
To put it more simply... an asset is something you created that you're loading into your program and an object is a programming construct.
