Create a list of all fruits and vegetables starting with the letters A through K . In other words all fruit and vegetables that don't start with the letter L to Z.
Where clause that you want to use is WHERE name <"L" (It will check on 1st letter of name related to position in alphabet - letters A through K satisfy this)
Full sql statement would be something like this:
SELECT name FROM fruit WHERE name <"L" UNION SELECT name FROM vegetable WHERE name < "L";
