Development Tools Git Basics Branches Beginning to Branch

What if I checkout -b when I'm in an earlier commit. Will that copy the entire master branch or just part of it?

It's not exactly a copy - the same commits that are on the old branch will be part of the new branch as well. If you have an older commit checked out when you create a new branch, then the commits that come after the commit you have checked out will not be part of the new branch.
