What are the PRO/CON of using Intellij spring boot starter as opposed to manually setting up the project here.

Hi I think you missed the intent of the question.

In Interllij, you can choose to start up a Spring app using the spring boot stater kit; and from there, decide whether you want a MAVEN project or a Gradle project. Gradle is a bit tricker to setup in IntelliJ but it all done for you, no add this, add that.

In this course, the instructor is setting up the Gradle project manually.

Spring is most commonly used for for web app development. It is only one of the solutions, though a popular one. It then runs on top of the Servlets system.

The alternative with normal Java programming is writing custom code for handling web requests. This will take a lot of time, which is better spent focusing on the actual requirement.
