What are some awesome books to learn Web Design?

Also some inspiring ones with some interesting theories, life lessons, how web design use to be, where it is now, where its headed and experiences from web designers. I want the whole shabang.

Also, Designing for Emotion is a a very quick read which I learned A TON from and had a great time reading as well!

I find info overload to be quite a problem in the design community so ...

I think the only blog you must read weekly to keep up with treads in the web world is A List Apart, if it's not being written about there then you don't need to worry about that trend (atleast not yet).

I also like [Smashing Magazine](smashingmagazine.com) but they cover so much I can never hope to keep up with it all.

Finally CSS Tricks is great for tutorials on great techniques but not so much for keeping up with trends.

As well as the above books, I'd recommend a subscription to a web design or graphic design magazine.

Books will give you a wealth of knowledge but won't keep you quite as up to date with the small details.

Noteworthy trends, new techniques and technologies etc. get covered pretty much in real time in these magazines, along with spotlights of other people's outstanding work,

I'll be honest I've only flicked through a few editions! I'm a big fan of computer arts, but of cause it's more (as the name would suggest) for arts, and design(print).

Might have to buy a .net magazine or two :)

It usually has lots of good articles and tutorials, but it also has lots of ads.
