What am I doing incorrect?

I dont understand what could be wrong here. any help thanks!

trial.py 
 def add(x, y)
    try:
        a = float(x)  
        b = float(y)
    except ValueError:
        return None
    else:
        return a + b
add(4, 6)

You code is very close. There are two errors: An extra space in front of the def statement, and a missing colon (:) at the end of the statement:

def add(x, y):
    try:
        a = float(x)  
        b = float(y)
    except ValueError:
        return None
    else:
        return a + b

Also, you don't need to call the function with add(4, 6)
