Web design or front end web development?

im done with the "build a website" course, (html and css) wich track is the best to start after?

the design track or the front end development track?

I would recommend starting by the wed design track. This track will give you a more comprehensive overview of what web design and development is. It will also help you to sharpen your HTML and CSS skills and will give you a very important extra tool that is called Sass.

Of course front-end development is also important, but to take the most out of it, you should first master de web's foundational languages: HTML and CSS,

In between the 2 tracks I recommend you to take the "Framework Basics" course. Frameworks kickstart your website development process, cutting your working time significantly.

Depends on your current skills I guess..

If you already feel competent about how you design skills, go for front-end dev. Since you did html & css courses, I'm guessing your current interest lies with coding. So I'd go for front-end dev...

If you've had enough of coding for a while, go and have a look into the design tutorials

Thanks for answering, i think im gonna o for the front end web development first, so i learn more about programming websites, then after im gonna take the design course, so i learn how to make the websites more smoother looking!

Hello Erdrag, Please be more specific about your goals. Do you want to be a website designer, back end programmer? If you post specifics about what you are interested in you will get more insight. The Treehouse community is great and you will get a lot of help.

hey, i wanna to both things, be a back end programmer and also do web design, but at the moment i dont know wich course i should start with. should i start with web design (css foundations, deep dive) so i can refresh and master my html and css and also learn more about web design layouts, or should i go for back end prorammer first, i tried to follow along on the build a responsive website (smell like bakin) but its hard to follow along on the design layouts, and what they do. Do you have any suggestions of what i can start with?

If you want to do front and back end, start with the front. I don't have any back end programming experience, but that is what I would, and am doing. I would start with HTML and HTML forms courses with Nick Petit, CSS with Guil Hernandez, and JavaScript with Dave McFarland. That will put you on solid ground with the majority of the front end. It's a lot to learn, but learn them well. Then move on to the back end programming.

My reasoning for this: the left hand (front end) has to know what the right hand (back end) is doing to be effective in what you want to accomplish. Again, I have no experience with PHP, or Python. Find someone in the forum that does and get their opinion as well. Treehouse is very good for providing building blocks to succeed, but don't forget to look for outside resources too.

start with front end programming then when i have more knowledge on how to make websites (structure, and more interactive websites) and when im done with that track, i do the design track, to learn how to style, and layout the structure.

or the design track first, so i master html and Css, and then front end, so i have some web design knowledge.

As far as that is concerned, I am in agreement with Sergio Rodridguez in his post to you from a few days ago. Start with web design track and go from there.

Its up to you. If you're really into the design of a website and you like color theory, typography, and you want to make custom icons and things like that, go with Web Design. If you're really into the coding side of it and you like to dig into what actually makes a website show up in a browser, go with Web Dev. Or you could just do both since from what I hear you'll most likely be doing both of these things combined wherever you end up working as a Front End guy. The Front End Web Dev course goes quite a bit deeper into the technologies(HTML/CSS/so on) that you need to build websites. The design course will teach you how to make those websites appealing to your potential users.
