1,603 PointsUsing the index of a char in a String
I keep getting this syntax error and I have no idea how to index. ./ScrabblePlayer.java:20: error: incompatible types: int cannot be converted to boolean boolean isTile = tiles.indexOf(tile);
public class ScrabblePlayer {
// A String representing all of the tiles that this player has
private String tiles;
public ScrabblePlayer() {
tiles = "";
}
public String getTiles() {
return tiles;
}
public void addTile(char tile) {
// TODO: Add the tile to tiles
tiles+=tile;
}
public boolean hasTile(char tile) {
// TODO: Determine if user has the tile passed in
boolean isTile = tiles.indexOf(tile);
if (hasTile){
return false;
}
else return true;
}
}

42,386 PointsHi Talal, the indexOf
method returns an integer
, not a boolean
.
You can modify it to return directly if you want, or use a variable, such as x
in this case.
boolean x = tiles.indexOf(tile) != -1;
