Using Linux Mint 18.2 Setup

I'm using the OS mention in the title and XAMPP/LAMPP as my UI for the servers.

I have a couple of questions.

  1. What path should I use for root?
  2. Should FTP(ProFTPD) run along with Apache2 server and MySQL Database?

Double check with Apache Friends (XAMPP people) documentation but my experience with XAMPP is that the document root is /xampp/htdocs.

Installing XAMPP is overkill for Linux systems - installation of LAMP server is a simple install with apt. You'll have to dig in and set your web root permissions, also with the easier installation of enabling php extensions. All thinks worth knowing in general anyway.

Here's a Linux Mint How To - not sure how good - The Ubuntu community has easy to follow instructions (might be the same for Mint.

I'm hooked on Ubuntu and cringe when I have to use my Win10 lappy with XAMPP (editing php.ini and stuff).

Regarding FTP - not sure - what/where do you want to FTP from/to?
