How would I go about working with both the measurement of 'em' versus the emphasis tag? It seems to me that the code would break unless I'm missing a detail for differentiating each from the other.

231,269 PointsThis should probably go in the CSS category, but there's no issue with confusing tag names with measurement unit because they are used in completely different ways. For example, this CSS rule uses both:
em { /* this is the tag name, a unit would never go here */
margin: 2em; /* but ONLY a unit would go here */
