Trying display / echo out a logo in header.php

Hi, there is something I'm not getting.

I've just started creating a theme using _s and I'm in the process of just setting up the navigation. But I ran into trouble already trying to edit the header.php file to display a logo.

I've added a logo folder to my theme directory and place the file cubo.jpg inside it.

Went to header.php, followed this example found in the theme hand book. I just placed the line of code in header.php just to test.

echo get_template_directory_uri().'/logo/cubo.jpg';

But it is just echo'ing out the path as a string and not the .jpg. What am I not getting.

I should have wrapped it inside of a image tag:
