Triple quotes and indenting?

Can someone explain the triple quotes? It confused me because Python seems to put a very strong emphasis on indenting.

Indentation is critical in Python, as applied to code statements.

Triple quotes just indicate a literal string which can contain multiple lines. Any indentation within the string is part of the string value, and not related to the indentation level of the surrounding code.
