Treehoouse Browser Console launches, but then loads endlessly

I have caused some sort of error with the in-browser console used during the Console Foundations lessons.

It was working just fine, but while playing around and experimenting, I typed in "whereami" to see if it would run a command. It said it was an application that wasn't installed, and asked if I'd like to install it. I, of course, thought, "Sure!" and I followed the instructions and installed it.

After it finished installing (which included running lots of random commands up the screen), the command prompt changed to "WhereAmI:" but would not let me type anything, and the console would no longer respond to any commands (including those using the ctrl key).

I figured, "Hey, easy fix, I'll just close everything out and reopen and it'll all be back to normal." Except it wasn't. Now when I open the console it just shows the loading bar loading over and over without ever actually loading the console (I have left it open for 20+ min). I also tried the normal stuff: resetting my computer, clearing my browser's cache, cookies, history, etc, but it still won't go past the loading screen to actually bring the console up again.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks!

Hi Jeff Lange I reset the console server so you should be able to use it properly now. Sorry for the frustration.

Having the same problem as OP so didn't open a new discussion. Maybe the server needs resetting again?

If it ends up being security settings as you suggest further down, what settings would those be? I've looked at mine and can't see anything that should conflict with it. Besides, I have no problem running other instances of web servers, etc.

Thanks!

Thanks for resetting it, Scott! Unfortunately, that didn't seem to fix my issue. Oh well. :/

I don't need it working anymore at this point, as I installed GIT and started using the console there instead. But just wanted to let you know in case other students start reporting a similar issue. Let me know if you need any more info from me.

Hi Jeff, sorry that didn't fix it. I assume that means it's something related to your security settings on your machine. Those are really the only two issues that cause the Treehouse console to not load properly.

Hm. I turned off the firewall and that didn't fix it either. Well, oh well, since it's an issue on my end and I won't need it anymore (...I think...haha, we'll see) looks like neither of us have to worry about it for now.

Thanks again for looking into that! I appreciate it. :)

I keep getting a "connection lost" error, and then it opens a new tab and tries again. I'm certain my internet is not cutting out. Would be great if this could be fixed so I can follow along with the tutorial.

Also, it was working yesterday and I haven't made any changes to my computer since then. I also tried restarting

@ Jeff Lange - I too have had the exact same issue. I have installed GIT as well, however I am a bit afraid to use it. Is GIT connected to my Personal PC or is it also some random server that I can muck around in. I'd hate to ruin something on my real PC like I did to the Treehouse Console.
