I really don't understand what's happening when I add the hover state? Please help. What am I doing wrong?

you actually did it perfectly fine! :) The only problem is that you're closing the rule before with a ] instead of a curly brace (}).

So if you fix that it should work, good luck!

5,199 PointsSteven is right. You need to close the nav a declaration with a curly brace before you can declare the nav a:hover.
