2,343 PointsTo be or not to be a Front End Developer? That is the question... And is Wordpress the answer?
Hi everbody in the Tree. I am looking for some guidance.
I would like to learn to code to work as a Front-End Developer. At least I think I do. I have enjoyed learning the HTML and CSS tracks on the site because you can directly see your visual results. I have been getting bogged-down for the past couple of weeks trying to learn Javascript. I get some of it, but I am just at the embryo stage of learning it and it makes my head spin at times and has caused my motivation to come to a halt. I like being creative, but I don't have any formal training in layout, design, or aesthetics. I don't know how to use Photoshop or any image editing tools. So I am a bit of a crossroads as to what path to go down. Any advice would be helpful.
Plus, I am in a crash crunch and wondering if learning to build sites using Wordpress just to get some customers would be a good idea while I learn whatever else it is I have to learn. What do you think about?

10,637 PointsHey Jeff, JavaScript is a hard language to step foot into. I just finished the Full-Stack JavaScript not too long ago and I still don't understand 100% JavaScript. But the way I learned JavaScript is I just challenged myself and eventually got used to the basics and its now a language I can fluently code into my websites.
If you are wanting to learn Photoshop which most clients would probably expect a demo design of what their website will look like I would advise to take Treehouse's "Adobe Illustrator for Web Design" course in the design library here https://teamtreehouse.com/library/adobe-illustrator-for-web-design
Wordpress could be a good start to get customers but if the customer wants you to make them a non wordpress website you should have the skills and knowledge to do so.
Again, JavaScript is a hard language to step foot into and I can guarantee that most students had trouble with it as well. Just keep practicing and hopefully you'll get into it. Personally, I would even step into Full-Stack JavaScript learning NodeJS and web frameworks like Express are very useful.

2,343 PointsThanks Ethan for taking the time to respond. I will press on with Javascript. Thanks for the link for Illustrator. I'm just wondering how many languages, programs, etc I will need to know to land some freelance work. The path of learning seems endless.

10,637 PointsWell, typically a customer would have to comply with your knowledge haha. So it would be best to list all your skills so they know what their website would be created on. I also have a tough time choosing what I want to learn but I've narrowed it down to PHP and Full-Stack JavaScript :) I love them both!
