Thoughts on my web design?

Hi,

What commends would you guys give me on the final version of the website?

Btw, the single article, on it's right, there will be a sidebar, but im not going to put it there, since I will do it with wordpress, and wordpress has already these widgets.

What do you think about footer? i don't quite like it 100% what do you think about other things? What would you change? any adivce?

Heres the site im talking about, the pictures obevioulsy :)

Hi,

  1. Would make the newsletter subscribe button in the footer orange. Currently it looks too similar to the entry field.
  2. Would make the Navigate links left aligned for consistency and make them orange for consistency.
  3. Would switch the newsletter subscription and the Brand intro paragraph in the footer.
  4. Possibly missing social media links in the footer.

I feel theres color and space inbalance. I like it a lot more, with just your sugestions definitelly, but not sure what you ment by the 3rd point.

Hi, this is off topic but I'm curious how you created that search thing that is in your navigation and how did you create the footer that nice. But, if I do get on topic. (This is my opinion) It would be cooler and 'modern' if you put cool animations and go for a bigger picture on your jumbotron. Because I see yours having margins and paddings on your pictures that are on top on every template you should me so it would be cool if you tried it different way. But, obviously that is my taste on jumbotron and this is my opinion. So I think you did a great template work.

Hi, i used bootstrap that has some elements already done. The search was already done on the navigation, all i did is changed the 'Search' button, and put in an icon, and i removed the border that spearated it from input.

Now, I'm not sure what you mean by the footer that nice, but, if you're about colors, iv learned to never go 100% one color. Go e.g. 70% on red, green, blue, orange etc.. and they all will look pretty nice together, and thats because in all of them there 30% of black. If you run all of them into 100%, they will be just black. Gosh, I can't write this in english : d illl write a blog about it if you want when i finish doing it xd

Animations like what? I was going to make effects on hover, and thats a good though! I totally forgot about it, but the effect was just one. Not sure what i could put there, as in terms of animation. Jumbotron xD I deleted all the HTML and CSS, and started to write from 0 ;D i call it now My Template xD Yes, i think i get you, the only page that might look nice is Resources with 0 margin at top, and tahts because other will get too clumsy.

Thanks! Still lots to do, and it's very hard! At least for me. I got few tips now from Warren, and they really helped me. Simple things, but i like the footer already better.

Hi Konrad,

Feedback: In my third point I was suggesting that you could have the Brand text in the first column (on the left) as in your first try... and have your Newsletter Subscription in the right column.

  • I think the orange button works better now and it is a clearer call to action.
  • Left aligning the Navigate links look better.

Suggestions:

  1. Make the Navigate links orange... for consistency and clarity.
  2. If you move the Newsletter Subscription to the right column you could move the social links below the email entry field.
  3. You could remove the text 'Stay connected...' above the email entry field... Don't think you need it. Then you will have more space for the social links below.
  4. I would try work within a clear 3 or 4 column grid in the footer and then align your content to the grid.

Have done two quick Photoshop tweaks here http://imgur.com/QmfGfNw and http://imgur.com/iq02R2amainly to spacing and weighting of elements for your reference.

  • I have use a 3 column grid to align elements
  • Made the social icons smaller
  • Have aligned the last line of the brand text with the bottom of the social icons

Comment: The space to the right of the 'Navigate' links does not bother me...

I think it looks a lot better now. That's my final design on the page with the footer, well, the excerpt could look a bit better, but right now im jsut going to put it in WP. II think it should be alright to change CSS later on.
