This error makes no sense!

I have already tried watching the video again, but I get the same error. The error is to vague for me to understand the problem and I think I am correctly using the code.

FlightActivity.java 
import android.os.Bundle;

public class FlightActivity extends Activity {

  public int mFuelLevel = 0;

  @Override
  protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_flight);

    // Add your code below!
    Intent intent = getIntent();
    int mFuelLevel = intent.getStringExtra("FUEL_LEVEL");
  }

If you are going to ask about 'int', I did not put that originally. Also, the error claims that the '.' in getStringExtra is not a recognized symbol.

Hi Jack,

mFuelLevel is an int. You should use the method getIntExtra to get the appropriate value.

getIntExtra take two parameters:

  • name String: The name of the desired item.
  • defaultValue int: The value to be returned if no value of the desired type is stored with the given name.

Example:

Intent intent = getIntent();
mAge = intent.getIntExtra("AGE", 0);

Edit: You already have declared your variable mFuelLevel at the beginning, don't declare it again when you assign it a value.
