The code below sets an EditText variable from the layout of an Activity.

I understand I want to use the 'OnClick' method and convert it to a string.....my syntax is off...as well as method.

EditText petNameField = (EditText)findViewById(R.id.petNameField);
String petName;

public void onClick(View v) {
                String name = petNameField.getText().toString();
        Toast.makeText(CodeChallenge.this, name, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
CodeChallenge.java
EditText petNameField = (EditText)findViewById(R.id.petNameField);
String petName;

public void onClick(View v) {
                String name = petNameField.getText().toString();
        Toast.makeText(CodeChallenge.this, name, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
            }

I misunderstood the question completely. The video does explain this as well........using the 2 methods described....'getText' and 'toString'......
