Hi Chris O'Brien

We currently have 6 different Techdegrees — not all are for the web, and not all cover the "Full Stack" meaning both the front end (what folks see in their web browsers) and the back end (the processing that happens on the web server.)

The Full Stack JavaScript Techdegree does cover both of these. The front end involves technologies like HTML, CSS and JavaScript to create a visually interesting and interactive experience for your web site's visitors. This can also include front-end libraries like Angular and React. The backend covers technologies that run on the server such as databases, languages and frameworks like Node.js and Express — JavaScript can also run on the server, that's where Node.js comes in.

Basically if you complete the Full Stack JavaScript Techdegree you'll have learned the basic skills of a Full Stack Developer.

We have one Techdegree, the Front End Web Developer Techdegree that's exclusively about HTML, CSS and JavaScript running in the browser.

We also have the Python Web Developer and Java Web Developer Techdegrees, which do cover some front end technology but mostly concentrate on server-side programming for building cool web applications.

Hope that helps!

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your comment. This is totally a new area for me but a career change i am looking to pursue. Alot of information is out there but i have heard treehouse name quite a few times so decided to come and join. My goal is to become a freelancing web developer along with developing some of my own ideas. I have basic knowledge of HTML and CSS.

With me wanting to learn the front end things, what backend courses are going to benefit me that's is going to allow me to learn what i would need.

Maybe i am trying to bake my cake and eat it.

Thanks,

Dave McFarland

You could sign up for the Front End Web Development Techdegree to master Front End skills and still take back-end JavaScript courses to start to dig into the back-end technologies. Look at the later courses in the Full Stack JavaScript Track to get an idea of what backend JavaScript is like.
