system software or application software?

Energia is used to control hardware, very much like a device driver, so it should be classified as system software, correct? The quiz labels it application software. Need clarification please.

Think of system software more as operating systems. Windows, Unix, OS X are all system software. Energia is an application that runs on top of a system (ie. application that runs on Windows). The fact that Energia needs to run on top of an operating systems makes it application software.
