Java Java Basics Perfecting the Prototype String Equality

Syntax looks correct, but it is throwing an error for the lesson?

I've typed the syntax correctly and am receiving no errors, but the lesson won't let me proceed. I've also swapped the values to compare, no luck there either. Not sure why the lesson says I'm doing it wrong...

Equality.java
// I have imported a java.io.Console for you, it is named console.
String firstExample = "hello";
String secondExample = "hello";
String thirdExample = "HELLO";

if (firstExample.equalsIgnoreCase("HELLO"))
{
 console.printf("first and third are the same ignoring case");
}

Hi David. The problem here is that you've removed the if statement from the first part of the exercise. The instructions say: "Add an if statement (...)". So just add the first if statement to that code and it will be fine.

On a side note, you should make use of the variable, instead of using its value. So:

if (firstExample.equalsIgnoreCase(thirdExample)) {
   // your code
}

instead of:

if (firstExample.equalsIgnoreCase("HELLO")) {
   // your code
}

Hope that helps :)

Thanks, I implemented your suggestion and it worked great!

You're welcome. Glad I could help :)
