Syntax error Java

I keep getting the same syntax error stating it does not recognize the period between " console.printf. " The "." comes u as an unknown symbol

IO.java
// I have imported java.io.Console for you. It is a variable called console
String firstName=console.readLine("What is your name?");
String lastName = console.readLine("What is your lastName?");
  console.printf="First Name: %s";

Your syntax should look something like this: console.printf ("sample text%s\n", variable);
