Syntax error

i feel this is correct.. but it say i have a syntax error... supposedly where i have 'M' in my if statement

ConferenceRegistrationAssistant.java
public class ConferenceRegistrationAssistant {

  public int getLineFor(String lastName) {
    /* If the last name is between A thru M send them to line 1
       Otherwise send them to line 2 */
    int line = 0;
    if(lastName.charAt(0) < M )
    {
      line = 1;
    }
    else
    {
      line =2;
    }
    return line;
  }

}

The problem is probably because you are trying to reference M which is not declared variable. Try using M as a String instead by wrapping it with quotes like this;

public class ConferenceRegistrationAssistant {

  public int getLineFor(String lastName) {
    /* If the last name is between A thru M send them to line 1
       Otherwise send them to line 2 */
    int line = 0;
    if(lastName.charAt(0) < 'M' )
    {
      line = 1;
    }
    else
    {
      line =2;
    }
    return line;
  }

}

You'll need to use single quotes to get a character instead of a string, but this is the right answer.

 if( lastName.charAt(0) < 'M' )

Good catch Geoff!
