Syntax Error

I keep getting the error return outside function.

Kindly assist

trial.py 
def add(a,b):
    try:
        a1 = float(a)
    except ValueError:
        return None
    else:
        return a

    try:
        b1 = float(b)
    except ValueError:
        return None
    else:
        return b

    c = float(a) + float(b)

    return c
