11,073 PointsI think it's pretty much standard advice today to recommend SVG icons over icon fonts. There are situations where icon fonts can't be displayed properly, whether due to lack of browser support, or in situations where fonts need to swapped out by the user.
Chris Coyer did a nice rundown of the debate between the two on CSS-Tricks: https://css-tricks.com/icon-fonts-vs-svg/. And Seren Davies has done a presentation on the issues surrounding icon fonts and dyslexic users: http://www.sitepoint.com/final-nail-icon-fonts-coffin/.
