Hi. I've trawled through the forums and been trying this for ages now, just can't seem to get the final piece of code sorted...
Problem seems to be with the line... ForumPost post = new ForumPost(author, "Android", "Developer"); ...but I can't work out what's wrong and it's ruining my Sunday :-( ;-)
Can anyone help?
Thanks Steve Kinsey
public class ForumPost {
private User mAuthor;
private String mTitle;
private String mDescription;
public User getAuthor() {
return mAuthor;
}
public String getTitle() {
return mTitle;
}
public String getDescription() {
return mDescription;
}
public ForumPost(User author, String title, String description) {
}// TODO: We need to expose the description
}
public class User {
private String mFirstName;
private String mLastName;
public User(String firstName, String lastName) {
// TODO: Set the private fields here
mFirstName = firstName;
mLastName = lastName;
}
public String getFirstName(){
return mFirstName;
}
public String getLastName(){
return mLastName;
}
}
public class Forum {
private String mTopic;
public String getTopic() {
return mTopic;
}
public Forum(String topic) {
mTopic = topic;
}
public void addPost(ForumPost post) {
System.out.printf("New post from %s %s about %s.\n",
post.getAuthor().getFirstName(),
post.getAuthor().getLastName(),
post.getTitle());
}
}
public class Example {
public static void main(String[] args) {
System.out.println("Starting forum example...");
if (args.length < 2) {
System.out.println("first and last name are required. eg: java Example Craig Dennis");
}
Forum forum = new Forum("Java");
// Take the first two elements passed args
User author = new User(args[0], args[1]);
// Add the author, title and description
ForumPost post = new ForumPost(author, "Android", "Developer");
forum.addPost(post);
}
}

13,023 PointsCheckout the line:
public ForumPost(User author, String title, String description) {
}
You aren't setting the class variables in it so when you create a new forum post the data vanishes.
Goodluck! --Ricky

4,463 PointsI think I know where the problem you're pointing me towards is, but I have absolutely no idea whatsoever how to rectify it!
I need to do something here...???
public ForumPost(User author, String title, String description) {
}

13,023 PointsBingo! What you need to do is set the class variables to the passed in values. Aka mTitle =title

4,463 PointsSo should I be doing something like:
User author = new User(args[0],args[1]);
ForumPost post = new ForumPost(User author, "ABC", "DEF");
???
Been at this for waaaaay too long :-(

13,023 PointsNope. The code you have there is fine. I am saying you never put any code in the initilizer function of ForumPost. You have been banging your head on the wrong file.
