I am curious to know what data type does the scanner returns. Is it a String? That's why we declare the guessInput as a String? Because I think we could have declared it as a char and we could delete the decleration of guess. Food for thought.

9,483 PointsHi Anastasios. A Scanner in Java parses Strings and primitive types, except for char. So nextLine() has to be used here to return a String, and then we call charAt(0) on that String to get the first and only letter of the String. It is what it is :D
