Why would we want to assign the variable a name (like Jeremy) within the actual code? Wouldn't we want to get that information from the console/user?

231,269 PointsYou're right, that's a more practical operation. What's shown here is from a point where the video is just talking about assigning different types of variables. As the video continues, that line is removed and reading input from the user is then demonstrated.
