Space between nested list items in markdown.

If I have the following nested markdown lines.

1. First group
  * item A
  * item B

2. Second group
  * item A
  * item B

I will get a blank line between "First group" and "item A" not between "item B" and "Second group" as I want to do. How can this be done?
